The AJS 37 Viggen is a a single-engine, delta wing, canard configuration multirole aircraft with STOL (Short-Takeoff-And-Landing) capabilities, as well as the ability to operate from improvised wartime airfields, like highway strips. It is the successor to J35J Draken.

It made its debut in Ace Combat 2 and later appeared in the handheld titles Ace Combat X: Skies of Deception and Ace Combat: Joint Assault.

History

Strangereal

The Viggens first saw use by the Usean Rebel Forces in Ace Combat 2's depiction of the Usean coup d'état. It was not featured in the remake Ace Combat: Assault Horizon Legacy.

The only other recorded use of Viggens was during the Aurelian War where it was sporadically used by the Leasath Air Force, which included an ace pilot with the callsign "Saber".

Joint Assault universe

The aircraft was available to Antares Squadron during the Valahia Crisis.

Trivia

• The Viggen model originally used in Ace Combat: Joint Assault was the AJS 37 model. However, the final version retained the original JA 37 from Ace Combat X: Skies of Deception.
• In real life, Viggen could not refuel mid-air. Despite that the plane can complete refueling minigames in both Ace Combat X and Joint Assault, however the refueling boom from the tanker will float slightly above the fuselage of the plane.
