Ace of Aces is the second special mission of Ace Combat: Joint Assault.

In this mission, the player(s) must engage an increasingly difficult series of enemy aircraft over the eastern area of the Pacific Ocean. Between every nine aircraft, the player(s) will engage a particular ace pilot of the Ace Combat series, starting with Su-37 "Storigon (Strigon)" from Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation. In total, there are 10 AI waves, and 10 Ace Combat aces (the mission targets) to engage.

Once players have finished the 10th wave, they will be engaged by the 100th and final target of the mission: a Typhoon marked "Phoenix" homaging the original Air Combat, complete with the original paint job. Defeating Phoenix will conclude the mission.

Trivia

  • There are two aces that have their names misspelled, Galm 1 and Strigon. They were misspelled as "Garm 1" and "Storigon". It is unknown if it was a mistake or it was intended by the producers for some reason. The Galm emblem in the emblem section was also misspelled in the same way. In this case, it is likely meant to be a correction of the misspelling present in Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War, in regards to the Galm team's namesake. References to the squadron in later games (such as the callsign in Ace Combat: Assault Horizon and the emblem given away in Ace Combat Infinity) have gone back to the "Galm" spelling, however.
  • The aces encountered are actually fought in order starting with the most recent Ace Combat game (at that time, Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation) progressing until the oldest (Air Combat).
