Two Osean Maritime Defense Force Arleigh Burke-class destroyers

Destroyers are a class of warships intended to escort larger vessels in a fleet and defend them against smaller, powerful short-range attackers.

They have made numerous appearances in the Ace Combat series. A variant known as stealth destroyers appeared in Ace Combat Infinity and Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown.

History

Erusea was known to have used destroyers during the Continental War. Several destroyers of the Aegir Fleet were either in the harbor or attempting to flee when they were sunk during the raid on Comberth Harbor. [1] A destroyer attempted to provide fire support for other Erusean forces during the Battle of Farbanti, but it was sunk by Mobius 1. [2]

During the Circum-Pacific War, both Osea and Yuktobania are known to have used destroyers. A destroyer was part of a Yuktobanian blockade during the Bombing of St. Hewlett, and was sunk along with the rest of its fleet by Wardog Squadron. [3] A pair of destroyers along with several Frigates provided fire support for the Yuktobanian invasion of Sand Island; they were sunk with the rest of the fleet, and the invasion ended in failure. [4] During Operation Glory Horn, the Kestrel Fleet, including Yuktobanian destroyers loyal to Prime Minister Nikanor, fought against other Yuktobanian ships and an Osean fleet that believed the Kestrel Fleet to be traitors.
