The F/A-32C Erne is an all-weather stealth multirole fighter that is designed to perform both air defense and strike missions. It is built by General Resource Limited.

Description[edit | edit source]

The F/A-32C is the General Resource Defense Force's latest F/A aircraft, developed as a successor to their F/A-18I Hornet ADV multirole.

Its main design is similar to the real Boeing X-32,[note 1] being a fairly small aircraft with a large delta wing, two outward-canted vertical stabilizers and no additional stabilators or canards. It features a large, raked air intake on the underside of the fuselage and a sawtooth-pattern rear surface. Its overall design is very similar to General's A/F-117X NAV Hawk stealth attacker, which results in the F/A-32C having excellent stealth performance as well.

The plane mainly differs from the X-32 in its engines: it has two instead of the X-32's one. These two engines share a single thrust vectoring vane, making their operation more efficient. They are not very powerful, however.

The F/A-32C's overall capabilities as an F/A far exceed those of a conventional multirole. Although its speed is fairly low, its stability and mobility match up to most dedicated air-to-air fighters, and its weapons selection is varied.

Its specifications are as follows:[1]

  • Length: 13.72 m (45.0 ft)
  • Width: 10.97 m (36.0 ft)
  • Height: 3.51 m (11.5 ft)
  • Weight: 22,680 kg (50,000 lb)
  • Top speed:
    • Japanese version: 2,324 km/h (Mach 1.9; 1,444 mph; 1,255 kn)
    • International version: 2,981 km/h (Mach 2.4; 1,852 mph; 1,610 kn)
  • Armor: Light

History[edit | edit source]

The F/A-32C was commonly used in the middle of the war of 2040 by the GRDF. Keith Bryan would use this aircraft for a time before replacing it with the XFA-36A Game.[2][3][4][5][6][7]

Game Analysis[edit | edit source]

Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere[edit | edit source]

"A multirole craft developed to replace aircraft such as the F-16XF, F-16XA, and F-18. In order for it to perform in all kinds of missions, it was planned for the design to meet many different requirements. However, it took time to improve the craft and huge delays in the development phase occurred. As a result, development costs rose and few models were produced. However, it had moderate capability in ground attack roles, and as a fighter for General Resource, it was comparable to an F/A-18I's multirole capability."

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • The Erne's namesake is the Latin name for the sea eagle.

Footnotes[edit source]

  1. Similarities with the prototype that contested JSF can be hard to see. However, in 1993, Boeing Defense & Space Group concept artists Peri Widener and Tom Koehler made a concept art impression of the X-32 which matches most of the design aspects seen on the F/A-32C.
