Helicopter Raid of Sachana
The Helicopter Raid of Sachana was a Aurelian operation to recapture the strategically important Sachana Air Base during the Aurelian War.[1]
Prelude
After Leasathian forces were destroyed at the Kalana Steppes, the Skylla Unit, an elite anti-air special forces, had left the base to protect the Nevera Jammer atop Mount Nevera. Whilst most of their air power in the region had been eradicated, Leasath deployed a considerable ground force trained in guerrilla warfare in the surrounding woodland to defend the base from a land-based assault in their stead.
With the Aurelian Air Force desperately needing a new base to use as a staging point for the upcoming liberation of Griswall, they set their sights on Sachana Air Base, the largest air force base in the country.[1] Unwilling to mount a costly ground offensive, Aurelia decided to launch a pre-dawn helicopter raid to capture the base, whilst bypassing the enemy forces encamped within the forest.
Infiltration
Gryphus One escorted the helicopter unit to Sachana Air Base, drawing away anti-aircraft fire while suppressing enemy guerrillas attempting to shoot down the helicopter unit with shoulder-launched missiles. After successfully escorting the unit safely over the surrounding woodland, Gryphus One destroyed the enemy forces stationed at the base. With the base's defences neutralised, the helicopter unit began to land and deployed troops to secure the base. Sachana Air Base was swiftly brought under Aurelian control, allowing Gryphus One to land at the newly-liberated base shortly after.[1]
Result
With the successful recapture of the base, Aurelia now held a key staging point for a combined allied assault on the capital, Griswall.[1]
