Wikia Gaming footer

Hello! I went ahead and added a Wikia Gaming footer to the bottom of the Main Page. We're trying to get Wikia's gaming wikis more linked with each other. It's not mandatory, so you can remove it if you really hate it, but it would be appreciated if you didn't :). You can change the links to point to any other wikia wikis you like or cooperate with. Logo

One on left is for classic skins (eg. Monobook), and that on right is for Quartz skins (if you like it - rename/reupload files as name without "2", eg. Wiki2.png as Wiki.png). Any comments / stuff to me - leave message on my Talk page. I also uploaded new image for F-22 Raptor - it's F22.jpg - taken from A.C. Wikia Gaming IRC channel

You may be interested to know there is a Wikia gaming IRC channel, #wikia-gaming on chat.freenode.net, where you can hop on, ask for help from users of other gaming wikis, or offer your own experiences. If you are not familiar with IRC clients, you can access it from http://irc.wikia.com/gaming.

Different people may be on sporadically, but we organize weekly chats at a fixed time so we can get the most number of people online at the same time to ask and answer questions, or just to hang out. The admins of some of Wikia's biggest gaming wikis (e.g. WoW, Halo) often attend them. You can find the time for the next chat by following this link.

Main page update

Hullo! I am Kirkburn, your friendly local Wikia Gaming Helper!

Hopefully you have read about the skin and ad changes at Wikia's New Style on Central Wikia. If not, I hope you'll have a look.

One of the changes is a block of two ads on each main page. It's possible that they won't always show up, but to ensure your main page continues to work properly when they do, you need to update your main page column formatting code with new column tags.

I have drafted a main page using the new tags on User:Kirkburn/Dev which I hope you can take a look at - feel free to make a copy and edit it. Though the layout may seem restrictive at first, there really is a fair amount you can do with them - for example see these customized main pages - Muppet Wiki, WoWWiki, FFXIclopedia. You may want to chat with your wiki community about what direction to take with a new main page.

If you encounter any problems with the new tags, please let us know.

Can we merge this Wiki into ours?

Main Page Polls?

Just curious for adding a poll to the page with questions like- What is your favorite Ace Combat game? What is your favorite aircraft carrier? For the Glory of AceWiki

As of now, it has come to my attention that the Wikia has been greatly lacking in some departments, which will be specified below.

• Several needed articles are non-existant (Ace Combat: Joint Assault & Xi: Skies of Incursion, for example);

• Some pages are in rather dire need of updating (images, new Featured Article/Image, etc.), and most importantly,

• There are several Categories either lacking either pages, or that are without any use whatsoever.

What I'm trying to say, is that I have an idea: request support from members of AceCombatSkies and/or Electrosphere.info.

OK, first of all, sign your comments on any talk page by adding nothing more than ~~~~ at the end of your posts, thank you. Second, this is a wiki, wikis are always under construction and may never seem to be finished, this one just needs more work than others. Lastly, feel free to encourage anyone with knowledge of Ace Combat to contribute to the wiki, just keep in mind of the policies of the wiki, etc. HavocReaper48 21:04, February 2, 2010 (UTC)

Favicon

Hi, admins and whoever passes around. Any wiki worth its salt should have its own unique favicon, and AceWiki sadly lacks one. I have designed two simple icons based on the ADF-01 Falken silhouette, because this plane is so iconic in the series. You can find them on my site ([2], [3]). I do not insist that we use my suggestions, though. The problem is more of a technical sort. On most Wikia wikis I know the favicon can be changed by simply reuploading File:Favicon.ico, which is usually only restricted to the wiki admins. However, it doesn't seem to be true for AceWiki: that file didn't even exist before, and I, a non-admin user, was able to upload a new version of it, but it didn't work. I assume that something was screwed up in the wiki settings and we need to ask the Wikia staff to fix it. Such things, however, are better requested by the actual admins of the wiki in question. --Koveras Alvane 21:47, March 27, 2010 (UTC)

The F-22A as the favicon sounds quite nice, although Ace Combat is more known for the ADF-01 FALKEN (which can be considered the most powerful aircraft in modern gaming). ProtoStealth 23:32, March 27, 2010 (UTC)

I thought of the Raptor, too, but the few AC forums I've seen constantly had a F-22A vs. Su-37/47 flame war going on, so I didn't want to open that can of worms. Plus, I'm really on the Su-37 side of that argument. ^^ On the other hand, as Protostealth mentioned, Falken is an original plane in the Ace Combat series and it's gathered quite a fame outside of it. --Koveras Alvane 08:25, March 28, 2010 (UTC)

Nope, its still there. Its only protected on newer wikis. This wiki is pretty old. Checked the configs my self, it is using the address that File:Favicon.ico generates, see here. Your browser may not show the icons FOR YOU right away, but it may show up for others fine instantly. Background

Perhaps we can change the background of the site? An example: Burnopedia. From what I've been told of at Wikia IRC, the Firebug tool helps by modifying JavaScript, thereby allowing to edit the background. Whaddaya say?

Not a very good idea, if you ask me. The background image always slows up the browser rendering speed because it has to re-render it every time you scroll down the page. Currently, something like this is installed in the Monobook skin (see MediaWiki:Monobook.css), which I am using and which always displays an image of the Berkut on the background. It's not that great, in short, because graphic elements may not under any circumstances get in the way of reading the texts IMO. In fact, I just had it removed from my view by tweaking my custom monobook.css file. --Koveras Alvane 10:00, April 5, 2010 (UTC)

Well, if you wish to. But I'm pretty sure the Monobook users here constitute a minority, so it's not anything critical... Nation Templates

Something I felt needed to be brought up. In the geography bar of the nation templates, it only ever lists the geography of each nation as "fictional". Well, duh! You really don't need a template to tell you that. I say that that ought to be altered or omitted from national templates. I mean it's totally needless.Fire Eater 21:36, May 7, 2010 (UTC)

You mean, perhaps, the field "Area" in the old articles that have infobox code pasted directly into them... Our new infobox Template:Country does not, in fact, include the Area parameter. Brave Arms Kaput

Just found new information about Brave Arms on NeoGAF: it was all a hoax. To be specific, Brave Arms, Second: Season 01 & Chain Limit were all an attempt to test the public's reactions, and if I recall, the Cellius Project trio was to be commercialized with good enough reception.
