"This is fire control aboard the USS Anzio. Defense squadrons, be advised, we are engaging enemy aircraft at close range."
Anzio officer

The USS Anzio (CG-68) was a Tinconderoga-class cruiser of the United States Navy. It was named after Anzio, Italy, site of an Allied invasion in World War II, named "Operation Shingle".

History

Towards the end of the New Russian Federation uprising, the Anzio was sent to Washington, D.C. as part of efforts to protect the capital from any air raid. Following the arrival of the first wave of NRF aircraft, she had begun returning fire.[1]

During the battle, three rebel Su-35s suicidally crashed into the Anzio after being crippled in combat, dealing heavy damage to the ship: the first one disabled her long-range weapons, the second one set her command facilities on fire, and the third and final attack caused the ship to sink. Casualties aboard the Anzio were unknown, but the crew was ordered to abandon ship after the third attack by the acting commander.[1]
