Whiskey Corridor is the 16th campaign mission of Ace Combat 04: Shattered Skies. The mission is a long duration air-to-ground operation carried out over a wide area. The player may be required to make multiple trips across the Return Line in order to rearm or repair damage.

Briefing

Whiskey Corridor is a narrow strip of land between Lambert and Amber Mts. The enemy has deployed a large tank force at the end of the corridor as its final line of defense. Despite being outnumbered, our allies must face this enemy contingent head-on in order to advance on the Erusian [sic] capital of Farbanti. Our projected casualty rate is extremely high. We need a miracle in air support to win this battle. Annihilate enemy ground forces and provide direct close air support to our troops.

Objectives

The enemy forces are concentrated in five positions. The mission's score requirement depends on the player's selected difficulty:

  • Easy or lower: 2,800
  • Normal or higher: 3,500

The player must surpass the point threshold within twenty minutes to complete the mission.

The mission has a greater emphasis on air-to-ground operation, but the enemy also has a sizable number of fighters and helicopters distributed around the airspace. It is recommended that the player uses an attacker aircraft, preferably one which supports splash-damaging bombs. The player must attack any of the three main defensive lines, which mainly consist of tank units and mobile AA weaponry. Defensive pillboxes along the westernmost defense link require multiple missile hits to destroy. The play can also opt to proceed to the northernmost sector of the map and attack the filed HQ which garners an additional point reward.

S Rank

Achieving an S rank on this mission requires the player to earn 6,300 points on Normal difficulty or above (5,200 points on Easy difficulty or below).[1][2] In order to do this, the player must destroy targets at a constant, hastened rate throughout the time limit. The sheer number of tanks units, long-range artillery and pillboxes will provide the bulk of the necessary points and will most likely require use of the Return Line at least once (depending on the player aircraft's payload capacity). Air-to-ground armaments with homing capabilities can make quick work of clustered ground units. If possible, down the enemy ace to earn an additional 240 points.

Debriefing

The enemy abandoned its defensive line, and the road to their capital lies open.

Trivia

  • If the player returns to base when flying a land-based aircraft, three smoke plumes can be seen around the airfield: one to the southwest of the runway, one on the apron near the control tower, and one to the northwest of the runway. These may be related to the artillery units set up southeast of the Erusean field H.Q., which could have shelled the ISAF airbase at some point during the battle.

Footnotes

  1. The SR-71 appears at the southwest corner of the map at 20,000 ft (6,100 m).
  2. The player must have completed the campaign, and must be playing on Normal difficulty or higher. KWEE spawns near the center of the map's western border.
