Ice Bound is a mission in Ace Combat X: Skies of Deception. In order to be able to play it, the player must accomplish Rolling Thunder so the Gleipnir will fly to Santa Elva intact.

Briefing[edit | edit source]

Terminus Island is home to both vital Aurelian oilfields, and the Gleipnir's hangar. Intelligence has informed us that an Aurelian scientist is being held captive within this facility. It's highly likely that he has obtained invaluable information on the Gleipnir, and more importantly he is a fellow Aurelian who must be rescued. The allied submarine Naiad will be used in his rescue. In order to draw enemy's attention from the Naiad, the allied fleet will engage in a diversionary operation. Our duty will be to protect the fleet. The enemy is expected to launch anti-submarine aircraft. Although our main objective is to protect the diversionary fleet, we must also ensure the safety of the Naiad. If you confront any anti-submarine aircraft, take them out as soon as possible.

Objectives[edit | edit source]

The initial objective is to eliminate enemy fleet while protecting the allies' own fleet at the same time. Damage incurred by the allied fleet will be displayed on the MPG, and the mission will fail should the gauge becomes full. Once the enemy fleet is defeated, two anti-submarine aircraft will appear as TGTs, which should also be dealt with promptly.

A mission update will follow, and the player is tasked with protecting the Naiad, which is on a collision course with a large iceberg. The MPG will display the distance until Naiad collides. Meanwhile, the enemy constantly sends attackers and bombers in an attempt to sink the Naiad, but its damage status will not be displayed on the MPG. Destroy the iceberg and shoot down incoming aircraft until the Naiad safely leaves the combat area.

Debriefing[edit | edit source]

The mission was a success. The Naiad has returned to port safe and sound. Thanks to the recon data from the Naiad, we've started to make some sense of the Gleipnir's stealth system. It will take some time to fully analyze the data, but it looks like there might be a way to partially shut down the stealth system. This information may help us gain the upper hand in our battle against the Gleipnir.
